After graduation, Dr. Gürgey dedicated his initial years to serving as a physician in various health centers in Erzincan Mercan, Karamerkez, and Sarıkamış. His commitment to service extended to fulfilling his military duty between 1972 and 1974. 

Dr. Gürgey's academic journey deepened with a specialization in Skin and Venereology at Ankara University, beginning in 1970. His expertise in the field was recognized in 1975 under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Lütfü Tat. His academic career progressed with him earning the title of associate professor in 1979 and professorship in 1988 at the same institution.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Gürgey has contributed significantly to various medical centers.
